East Kootenay including tributaries around the upper Kootenay River and Kootenay National Park, Fairmont Hotsprings, Fernie, Elkford, Kimberley and surrounding areas (DOWNGRADED to High Streamflow Advisory) (see update at this link here)

The River Forecast Centre reports that river conditions continue to show gradual improvement:

  • River flows remain elevated but are generally tracking within a 2–5 year flow range.

  • Conditions are expected to continue improving over the next 2–5 days.

  • Snowmelt contributions are slowing.

  • River levels are slowly receding in many areas.

  • Hazard ratings have been reduced in some watersheds as conditions improve.

  • Despite the positive trend, watersheds remain vulnerable to additional rainfall and will continue to be monitored closely.

Community Monitoring

Staff continue to monitor river conditions and flood stakes throughout the community. At this time, conditions appear stable, and no immediate concerns have been identified.

A hydro pole was recently compromised. BC Hydro has been notified.  Removal slated

  • No interruptions to electrical service.

  • High-voltage infrastructure has not been impacted.

Boil Water Advisory

FNHA has recommended that the Boil Water Advisory remain in effect for a few more days until water levels recede further. Once conditions improve, bacteriological water samples will be collected and tested to confirm that the water is safe to drink and potable for affected homes before the advisory is lifted.

ʔaq̓am Infrastructure staff will continue monitoring conditions closely. Sandbags and sand remain available should they be required.

Please continue to exercise caution around rivers, streams, and unstable riverbanks. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to keep a close eye on children and pets near waterways, as conditions can change quickly.

We will continue providing updates as new information becomes available.
