What is happening?
From January 12, 2026 onwards, there will be regular logging truck traffic along Upper Mission Rd from Monday through Friday, 5 am to 3 pm.
What to expect?
Logging trucks will haul wood northbound on Upper Mission Rd towards LD Ranch Road from the Gravel Pit Rd. These trucks have limited visibility–do not pass them, as they cannot see you! When a logging truck is coming towards you, please find an area where you can pull over safely.
What can you do?
- If aq̓amnik will be driving on Upper Mission Rd frequently, the Lands Department highly recommends having a radio within the vehicle.
- Programmed handheld radios will be available to rent (at no cost) at the reception desk at the band office for the duration of the project.
- Logging truck traffic will be on Radio Channel RR-1.
Radio Calling Procedures
- Call “km Number, up or down, vehicle type.”
- Example: ” Zero, up, for a Car. Am I Clear?”
- At 11 km and 0 km, follow up with “Am I clear?” This will alert the truck drivers to follow up if they are nearby, as there are blind corners coming around both 10 km and 0.5 km. It is recommended that traffic stay put if the truck driver is less than 2 km away.
- Road users MUST call at the following km: O up, 1 down, 9 up, 11 down.
Pullouts and right of way
- Loaded logging trucks ALWAYS have the right of way; ensure you find a suitable pullout before meeting a loaded truck. Give ample time (3 / 4 km ahead) to find a pullout spot. Do not wait until the last minute (less than 1 km).
- Any wide spot on the road is a suitable pullout spot. Existing junctions with side roads are good pullout spots.
- Try to find a pullout in a straight road stretch. Once the vehicle is at the pullout, confirm with the haul driver over the radio that you are off the road.
- Example: “Pickup Clear at 4 km.”
- If you are travelling behind a loaded truck, do not try and pass them, as they can not see you.
Speed limit
- Never exceed 80 km/h
- Drive to the weather conditions. If road is snowy / icy please take blind corners slowly and allow extra distance for stopping.
