Emergency Management Planning Project

Kiʔsuʔk kyukyit,

ʔaq̓am is working with Adriane Brown Group Inc., (ABG) to review and strengthen our community’s Emergency Management Plan. This is a community-led project grounded in our values, teachings, and experiences — and shaped by what we hear from you.

Why this matters

Our Emergency Management Plan helps guide how we prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies like wildfires, floods, and other critical incidents. It also supports long-term community safety, well-being, and self-determination.

What’s happening

Beginning this fall, we will:

  • Talk with community members to understand your experiences, priorities, and ideas
  • Map risks and resources using both traditional knowledge and modern tools
  • Strengthen coordination with neighbouring jurisdictions and emergency partners
  • Develop updated plans and training tools that reflect ʔaq̓am’s culture, values, and governance

Ways you can participate

We want to hear from you — whether you live on or off-reserve. Engagement opportunities will include:

  • One-on-one interviews and small group conversations
  • Drop-in sessions and kitchen table discussions
  • Listening circles for Elders and Knowledge Keepers
  • An online survey with the option to stay connected for follow-up

We’ll also be collaborating with the Safety Task Force, attending meetings and other community gatherings.

How to get involved

Stay tuned for updates on upcoming engagement dates in September. If you’d like to participate, please contact:

About the project

This work is being guided by a community Steering Committee, with support from ABG. All engagement activities will reflect ʔaq̓am’s values, cultural protocols, and commitment to community safety. Planning will align with provincial emergency management standards while respecting local knowledge and governance.
